MERIT BADGE RALLY - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2025

LOCATION: Minnesota State College SE, 1250 Homer Road, Winona, MN 55987

DETAILS: Below are the classes that are being offered and the pre-requisites that a Scout will need to complete prior to attending class. Cost for each Scout to attend is $20. Some classes may have additional charges for supplies.  Worksheets need to be downloaded, pre-requisites done and brought to class. 

REGISTRATION OPENS: Tuesday, October 7th

SCOUT WAIVER: Attention Parents….for all Scouts that will be in the Welding, Woodworking, or Auto Maintenance classes.  Please read and sign the permission to attend these classes. Copy of waiver is below. Print a copy and have Scout bring it with them so that they can attend these classes. A Scout signed up for a class requiring a waiver will not be able to attend the class without one. Thank you

PHOTO RELEASE FORM – SE MN College will be doing photos of the event this year and have asked about photo release permission for the Scouts attending. Please complete form and have the Scout bring it with them that day. 

Merit Badge Rally Agenda

  • 7:00am-7:45am – Check in and registration
  • 8am-8:20am – Flag ceremony & greetings from MN State College
  • 8:30am- 11:30am – Morning merit badge classes
  • 11:45am- 12:45pm – Lunch (Please bring sack lunch or order out)
  • 1:00pm-4:00pm – Afternoon merit badge classes
  • 4:00pm-4:30pm – Check out at registration table. (All leaders or parents need to let us know who is leaving for the day)

AMERICAN CULTURES
  1. Download Worksheet – Bring to class
  2. Pre-requisites:   Pick 3 cultural groups (one must be your own background)
  3. Use your own cultural background to prepare and share in class for most requirements. The other 2 groups will be discussed in class. (Ex: Mr. Neuvirth will present on polish heritage for 1c.)
AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE

  2. What to wear: Closed toed shoes (work boots preferred, but hiking boots will be fine too. Heavier pant material such as work pants or jeans. Work shirts/T-shirts with good coverage, Safety glasses) Clothes may get dirty and stained-plan accordingly.

ARCHITECTURE

BIRD STUDY
  • AM & PM Class being offered.
  • 15 Scouts in each class. 
  • $5 extra to purchase Bird House.

PHYSICS TEST LAB
  • PM Class
  • 20 Scouts in the class.

  1. A test lab is the opportunity to help in the development of fun and interesting new topics unique to the Scout BSA program. A scout will have the chance to work on Physics test lab with a counselor at the Merit Badge Rally. After completion of all requirements you must take a short survey which will lead you to a certificate of completion. If you complete a test lab badge and it becomes an official merit badge, you will be credited with having earned that badge. After completion.

SIGNS, SIGNALS & CODES

  • Pre-requirements:  Everything should be done in class. NOTE: Req#7 will need to be done after your class and before you can be awarded the merit badge. 
WELDING
  • Download Worksheet and bring to class
  • Pre-requirements: The scouts should complete the welding workbook the portions that do not have to deal with the hands-on welding.  I have also attached an SDS sheet that they should look at and a list of welds for question 4 out of the workbook. (links listed below)

    Welding workbook to do Pre-Req’s listed before class: #1,#2,#3,#4,#5, and #7.  Have done before hand to be prepared to discuss in class.

    What to wear: Leather boots, no tennis shoes, jeans, no jogging or sweat pants, 100% cotton shirts, We will have jackets, gloves,  and welding helmets.
